SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Statement of Direction – July 2025 update

The SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Statement of Direction

provides guidance to SAP BusinessObjects customers on the product directions for SAP analytics solutions. SAP published a new version this month with some important updates which can be found here.

SAP Business Data Cloud

SAP Business Data Cloud delivers deep integration of Data Management, Analytics and Planning augmented by AI in one native cloud solution. This allows to move from insight to action, brings analytics closer to the point of decision and provides trusted insights from customers' most valuable data.

SAP Analytics Cloud, as a key component of SAP Business Data Cloud, provides trustworthy analytics for any user from any context and remains the recommended option for all new planning and analytics projects. The closed loop from insight to action allows customers to identify challenges, analyse options and execute decisions from one place.
Our knowledge of customer data and integration to business process enable customers to rapidly deploy analytics to address their most important business problems.

SAP BusinessObjects BI

With more than 30 years of innovations, SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (SAP BusinessObjects BI) equips thousands of companies which reliably manage enterprise reporting use cases at scale. SAP's revised maintenance strategy guarantees Mainstream Maintenance until at least end of 2031 which secures your investments on the long run, whether you want to deploy on premise or in a private cloud.

New maintenance strategy

Starting with BI 4.3, Mainstream Maintenance is now followed by Customer Specific Maintenance during which SAP deliver fixes for high and very high security issues (CVSS >= 7) during the first year. SAP is extending BI 4.3 Mainstream Maintenance until end of 2026 so that security fixes are guaranteed until end of 2027 as previously committed.

With SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, SAP adopts a revised delivery cycle which addresses the need for more stability while keeping regular updates: we are moving away from support packages delivered every year and supported only during 18 months to minor releases delivered every 2 years, benefiting from 3 years of Mainstream Maintenance, followed Customer Specific Maintenance including 1 year of security fixes.

SAP already plans for a next release, BI 2027, which should be available in Q1 2027, followed by another one 2 years later, and SAP will revisit their roadmap on a regular basis.

SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 and beyond

SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 is available since March 2025. This new version illustrates SAP's strategy going forward: continue the modernisation started in version 4.3 and streamline the suite by focusing on the core components while providing alternatives for unsupported ones.

SAP's strategy is based on 3 pillars: reach more business users, increase power users' productivity and reduce total cost of ownership. To maximise the value for our customers, we will focus ongoing investments on the most-widely adopted SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions: SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, single source .unx universes, SAP Crystal Reports, and the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform.

SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office and SAP Lumira Designer will be maintained and supported, but no new feature will be delivered.

SAP will provide alternatives

With SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025, SAP does not deliver anymore SAP Lumira Discovery, SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise, SAP BusinessObjects Universe Design Tool and .unv universes, multi-source universes and associated connectivity, SAP BusinessObjects Analysis edition for OLAP, SAP BusinessObjects Live Office and SAP BusinessObjects Mobile, but SAP will recommend alternatives for all use cases.

SAP will stop supporting AIX and Solaris after version 4.3 and will focus on Windows and Linux.

Move your analytics to the cloud

For companies willing to move analytics workloads to the cloud, SAP offers 2 complementary options: SAP BusinessObjects BI operated in a private cloud and SAP Business Data Cloud.

SAP BusinessObjects, private cloud edition is an opportunity to shift from a maintenance contract to a subscription model while leveraging your existing investments in SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions.

SAP Business Data Cloud is recommended for new applications, use cases and users, and along with our partner community, we are committed to support every customer through this journey with tools and programs
